In 1849, gold was found in the place called "Coloma" by the American River, not very far from the city of Sacramento. This is what is believed to be the beginning of Gold Rush in California, which took place 170 years ago.

Intrigued by the history of Gold Rush in Alaska, a feeling gradually grew in me, during the course of research and shooting in the place far north, that shooting in California -the "heart of Gold Rush"- is inevitable. At the scene of Gold Rush where "California cultures" sprang, searching for and pondering over the traces left of those days. What could be found now in the 21st century at a number of "historical fields"? How would the history reveal itself to us today?

Hoping to observe in photographs the spirit and art (technologies/artifacts) of the times of digging for physical wealth, gold, in nature.
